Bößer & Szörenyi
The Other Reason - Exaltation. Trance. Ecstasy

An installative performance

14th -16th February 2020 in Weltkunstzimmer, Düsseldorf

"The Other Reason - exaltation, trance, ecstasy" is an installation performance combining con
temporary dance, live music, video projections and liquid materials creating images and spaces where stasis and flow, inner and outer entangle.

Bößer & Szörenyi aim to free the energies of disintegrating states of consciousness while dissecting them, through the senses and formally.
Supported by Thomas Klein's oscillating pull of tribal beats and amplified by acoustic and visual rhythms and effects, The Other Reason takes both performers and audiences on a horizon-expanding journey between projection and imagination.

Movements, images, sounds, smells and your own play of thoughts merge into a space of suggestion, atmospheric density and growing openness. Immersion in other states of consciousness does not represent a flight from the world, but a purposeful calling of the "other reason" -
a horizon of consciousness beyond the rational.

New project: "The other reason: Exaltation,Trance and Ecstasy - an artistic reasearch project"

The project The other reason: Exaltation,Trance and Ecstasy focuses on physical and mental states of emergency such as trance, ecstasy and exaltation - conditions that have been found in archaic cultures and rituals. These states of consciousness have been cultivated in all cultures and at all times, arising from a profound and universal human need.

The Research was carried out on theoretical, dance and aesthetic levels into extraordinary everyday states of consciousness and their different movement characteristics.

The research reflects and attempts to visualize the inner states of the performer and make them comprehensible to the viewer. The aim is an implementation that reflects, dynamics and transforms exaltation, ecstatic or trance- like states of consciousness physically, visually and aesthetically. The Visual arts and performing arts are treated as equal media, the setting and the performance interact with each other.

PIECES OF MANFESTO

Two artists – two manifestos. The wordless dialogue of the two artists creates one voice in a spatial manifesto. Pieces of Manifesto is a collaborative performance of a choreographer and a visual artist, in which Karen Bößer approaches objects through the grammar of movement with her choreographic gaze, while Beatrix Szörényi arrives to performativity through the figurativity of visual arts.

Pieces of Manifesto creates such a performative space-installation in front of it’s audience, in which performance, objects and installation react to each other and they transgress the frame of each other.

DANCING ON THEIR GLITTERING MIRRORS
about dance, wind and fire

Dancing on the Glittering Mirrors is a piece that combines dance, theater, and visual arts.
Using stories documented from intimate interactions in public spaces as its base, the piece explores the concepts of intimacy and passion, combining reality with fiction, and the extraordinary with the terrestrial.

Director, choreographer, performer: Sônia Lopes Soares
Performers: Mercedes Searer I Janet Panetta I Charles Gowin
Lighting designer: Jiyoun Chang
Sound designer: Kuki Stolarsky
Costume designer: Baille Younkman

Sônia Lopes Soares is a Brazilian dance artist, based in New York City. Cultivating a language through multidisciplinary collaboration, Soares constructs scenes using nonlinear, poetic narratives, mirroring the random and chaotic nature of the universe. This investigation encompasses vulnerability in the bodies, the line between fiction and reality, the ridiculous and tragic, and how they all interconnect. Sônia has performed her work in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, United States, France at Pompidou, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
